Dear Sir,

I trust this letter finds you well. On this solemn occasion marking the 10th commemoration of the June 3 Disaster, we pause to honour the memory of those who tragically lost their lives. May we continue to pray for their souls and work to ensure that such a tragedy is never repeated.

Mr. President, I write with profound respect and a renewed sense of optimism. I speak on behalf of countless Ghanaians who have already witnessed the transformative strides your administration has made in a remarkably short time. On behalf of the Libertas Heritage Society—a non-profit civic education group—and fellow citizens, I extend our heartfelt congratulations on the commendable progress achieved under your leadership.

Between 2016 and 2024, Ghana endured significant economic headwinds. The public debt-to-GDP ratio soared from 56% in 2016 to over 90% by 2023, plunging the nation into debt distress and triggering negotiations with creditors and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Inflation peaked at 54% in 2022, severely eroding household purchasing power—especially among lower-income families. The Ghanaian cedi experienced extreme depreciation, losing over half its value in 2022 alone. These macroeconomic pressures translated into rising unemployment in urban areas, escalating school fees, and a marked slowdown in private-sector investment.

From 2017 to 2020, the banking sector crisis saw the collapse of several indigenous banks due to insolvency, eroding public trust in the financial system. In 2022, the introduction of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) further compounded public frustration, as it was widely viewed as regressive and a threat to digital financial inclusion.

Since assuming office in January 2025, your administration has taken swift and decisive action to stabilize and revitalize the economy. The cedi, which had depreciated by over 50% in 2022, has since demonstrated remarkable resilience, trading below GH¢11 to the US dollar as of May 2025. Inflation has fallen to 23.1% as of February 2025, signaling a strong return to macroeconomic stability and even more so in light of more recent developments.

Your administration’s emphasis on fiscal discipline, strategic restructuring of the IMF agreement to better align with Ghana’s development priorities, and robust support for domestic production have all contributed to this turnaround. The establishment of the Gold Board has played a pivotal role in strengthening forex reserves and restoring economic confidence. In addition, targeted initiatives such as the Cocoa Stabilization Fund and the Small-Scale Manufacturer Grant Scheme have bolstered export earnings and spurred job creation, particularly in rural areas.

Your Excellency, the trajectory of your government’s performance so far suggests that Ghana is on course to reclaim its path to greatness – so long as the current momentum is maintained and your appointees remain aligned with your national vision. The 2024 general election results reflect a collective yearning for transformation, with your sweeping victory inspiring a renewed sense of unity, nationalism, and hope across the country.

It is, however, unfortunate that constitutional term limits will prevent you from personally overseeing all the critical changes and developments needed to ensure lasting impact. Yet, the foundation has been firmly laid, and your leadership continues to guide the nation forward. I respectfully urge you to use your influence to shape the future of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a way that ensures your successor carries your vision forward with the same integrity and purpose. Your stewardship is essential in preserving the pillars of inclusive growth, transparency, and fiscal responsibility that have defined your renewed mandate.

Mr. President, your leadership has rekindled national hope and placed Ghana firmly on a path toward resilience, recovery, and shared prosperity. The road ahead may be challenging, but with unwavering commitment, sound planning, and inclusive governance, I believe Ghana will not only overcome but thrive. May your tenure continue to be marked by transformative progress, and may the legacy you build endure across generations.

Yours sincerely,
Sonny Namouz
